We had a problem with posts not appearing formatted. (They were ok when being edited just the published version was bodge) I think this only happened after I accidentally lost the sidebar trying out the Hello Elementor theme.
Anyway I have switched the theme to Twenty Twenty which doesn’t seem to have this problem. Eventually I guess will switch to Twenty Twenty Three in the interests of greater flexibility.
This post made with the Quick Draft posting option. With that option the post is first saved and then you click on it and can edit and publish it, I am editing it now. On this occasion the post appeared in “Code”, that is to say in the WP programming language. It has the text plus all sorts of signs, a lot of it is essentially HTML. Anyway, I just had to hit the button to Exit the Code Editor.
Category: Housekeeping
This category is for all matters connected with the internal running of the site.
It clashed with the plugin “CoBlocks” I’ll send the plugin developers a message to see if the problem is fixable. But in the meantime I’ve deactivated CoBlocks. Once you have saved a quick draft you can edit it further which is what I am doing now.
Posting bug fixed.
You should be able to log in and post (or if you are an Editor to edit) without hassle. At the moment if you log in you should have the default category Author and be able to post immediately. We will keep that up if we don’t get too many bots registering as members. If we do we’ll have go back to needing the first post approved if we don’t otherwise know you are real. Please don’t be a bot or post spam.
When you post you best off using the normal post system. Go to “posts” on the Dashboard and bring up the submenu, click on Add New, and off you go. The Quickpost function atm only seems to like the Classic Editor Another glitch we’re working on but this time not a disabling one. Just don;t use the Quick function?
Any problems with logging on please post in a comments dialogue box.
Another bloody test post
I’m making this post as a test
And making it rhyme as a jest.
Using the blog
Some say, is a slog
And takes too much time to invest.
Posting using built in editor
Now I’m posting using the built in editor and not using the Elementor page builder. The built in editor has been improved since I last used it.
I’m thinking at the moment it is the easier option for a newbie and despite being an “administrator” on this site I’m definitely a newbie (help). The only thing that might give you pause is the request for you to type “/” to choose a “block” which is to say a mode of expression. If you are just going to type stuff you can ignore that as “paragraph” ie text is the default setting. Otherwise it seems pretty intuitive. A sidebar appears on the right which first shows such things as Category (as in “Housekeeping” for this post) when it is set to “post” and then such things as type size when it is set to “block”.
Either with the pagebuilder or the built in editor there is much much more fancy stuff you can do but I’m just looking at basics here. People who can do the fancy stuff don’t need my advice!
Ok now I’ll hit publish and if all goes well I will recommend that new users will find the built in editor easier. I’ve also just now discovered that is you hit “Shift” together with “Enter” when you start a new paragraph the editor will assume you are continuing with the same settings. (Otherwise it will ask each paragraph if you want to choose another block and you will have to reset type size )
Oh well, I will hit Publish now.
